Mother Of Three Year Old Who Died…Sentenced On Child Endangerment Charges

A Carter County mother charged with aggravated child endangerment in the 2016 death of her three year old son has been sentenced in Criminal Court. Ayon-ja-leea Phillips was sentenced to 18 years in prison in connection with the death of Ja’Kari Phillips. Ja’Kari’s father, Demetrius Convington is charged with the child’s death. Court documents say the child suffered brain swelling, stomach injuries and bruises. Demetrius Covington’s murder trial is set to begin later this Fall.
