Proposal In Hawkins County Could Reduce The Number Of County Commissioners
A resolution will be considered later this month in Hawkins County that could reduce the number of county commissioners from 21 to 14 beginning in 2022. The move is being sponsored by Commissioner Mike Herrell in a duel attempt to save money and unify the commission. Under the proposal , each of the county’s seven districts would be represented by two commissioners instead of the current three. The idea is fewer commissioners means, more of them would be appointed to larger and more important committees. County Commissioners are paid one hundred dollars per meeting. The proposal will be considered at next Monday’s county commission meeting.
