Progress Slow on Building Road to New West Ridge High School
The Sullivan County Commission was still unable to come to a decision Monday, after hours of conversation on progressing the road to the new West Ridge High school.
The vote called for a $300,000 study of the route to the school, off of Interstate 81’s exit 63. Comissioners fear that in it’s current state, it is simply to unsafe for teenage drivers. Commissioner Mark Vance backed a proposed amendment that would have both the School Board, and the Highway department share in a study/construction project estimated to cost around $3.3 million. It was shot down over concerns of misappropriating funds from the state. Sullivan County Superintendent Evelyn Raflowski even expressed concerns about the legality of appointing money from the school board towards the project. With this hot button issue still unresolved, the commission is slated to meet next month in a special session to try once more to address the situation!
