“Dixie” Will No Longer Be Played At Sporting Events At Southwest Virginia School

The playing and singing of a popular and traditional song during football games at a Southwest Virginia high school will soon be a thing of the past. Washington County Virginia’s Patrick Henry High School for years has played DIXIE at their Friday night football games and other sporting events. School officials say the change is an effort to have a song that identifies with the school and embraces the whole school community…However, not everyone is pleased, an online petition with more than 200 signatures is being circulated asking that DIXIE continued to be played at the school’s games.
