Bristol Chamber of Commerce CEO Reacts to Closure of Bristol Compressors
With the announcment of the closing of Britol Compressors on Tuesday, many workers find themselves facing an uncertain future.
Bristol Compressors, who been one of the largest employers in the region, announced Tuesday that it will be shutting its doors because of a struggling Middle East market and lack of profits. Bristol Chamber of Commerce CEO Beth Rhinehart explains the impact of the closure on the community, and what steps are being taken to help those facing unemployment.
“It’s really tough on the economy. More importantly, you got over 470 individuals who are in the process of losing their employment. Those are people who live and work in our community so, our main concern right now is getting them transitioned to any new employment opportunities that exist. We are organizing a job fair that will be in a few weeks.”
With this job fair happening soon, it gives some of the workers an opportunity to reach out to other employers about prospective job opportunities.
