Virginia Attorney General Says Lee County Proposal To Arm Teachers Is Unlawful
Despite a Lee County School Board unanimous vote to arm teachers in that county this year, Virginia’s Attorney General says the idea is unlawful. The county plans to arm a certain number of qualified teachers to carry handguns in an effort to provide safety due to a lack of school resource officers. Governor Ralph Northam has also denounced the plan. The lee County Sheriff’s Department supports the school board’s decision and plans to work with the school system to implement the decision to arm Lee County teachers.
