More Than A Half Million Dollars Going To Southwest Virginia Schools For Safety Upgrades
Eight southwest Virginia school systems are sharing more than a half million dollars in grant money to help fund safety and security enhancements at their schools. 620 thousand dollars will be used by schools that need new security equipment, had a high number of offenses, were identified by a state safety audit and school systems who don’t have funds available for security improvements. Lee and Wise Counties each received the maximum 100 thousand dollars grant. Other systems receiving tens of thousands of dollars include: Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Scott, and Washington Counties.
