Man Who Robbed And Murdered Elderly Carter County Woman To Stand Trial

A Carter County man accused of robbing and killing his next door neighbor will stand trial in January of 2020. Chad Benfield was indicted for the robbery and murder of 89 year old Mary Nolen. Benfield had just been released from a South Carolina prison for robbery before the murder occurred. The 89 year old Nolen, was beaten and could only communicate by nodding her head when she was questioned by police. Nolen died a few days later.
