Scott County Woman Pleads No Contest To Child Abuse And Neglect…Resulting In Infant Blindness

A Scott County, Virginia woman pleads no contest to felony child abuse and neglect after hospital exams show several non accidental brain bleeds, resulting in the blindness of the woman’s infant child. 27 year old Ashley Marie Cowan avoided a jury trial by making the plea agreement and now faces up t 15 years in prison. Cowan, also was convicted of assaulting social services workers who responded to the hospital when the incident took place last April.
