Southwest Virginia Psychiatrist Arrested For Fraud And Having A Sexual Relationship With Patient
A Southwest Virginia Psychiatrist is sentenced to seven months in jail after pleading guilty to defrauding Virginia Medicaid and United Healthcare, by billing insurance programs while carrying out a sexual relationship with a patient. Authorities say the case against 61 year old Psychiatrist Alberto Cervantes was both unlawful and also cheated taxpayers as well as being unethical and could have compromised the well being of his patient. During the two year relationship Cervantes fraudulently billed more than nine thousand dollars for prescriptions for prescriptions he wrote for the patient, when no legitimate psychiatric care was being performed. Cervantes will also be fined 25 thousand dollars.
