Southwest Virginia School System Files Suit Against State Of Virginia
A southwest Virginia school system has filed suit against the state of Virginia for preventing the school board from putting into place a plan that would have allowed teachers to carry firearms. The Lee County school board filed the suit against the Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security. According to the suit, the state of Virginia denied school superintendent Brian Austin’s application to become a special conservator of the peace, which was a major part of the school systems plans to arm some teachers and staff to offset a lack of school resource officers in the school system.
