Prescribed Burns By Forestry Officials In Sullivan And Carter Counties

Weather permitting, smoke may be visible as the Forestry Service conducts two prescribed burns in Sullivan and Carter Counties. In Sullivan County, the forest service plans to burn 900 acres off the south end of South Holston Lake in the Big Creek area. A second burn in Carter County will involve a planned burn of 126 acres at the south end of Watauga Lake between Cardens Bluff and Watauga Point. The burns will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, if weather permits in an effort to reduce hazardous fuels that can feed forest fires.
