Kingsport Police Investigating Fatal Head-On Collision That Killed Two on Interstate 81
Police are continuing to investigate a fatal head-on crash in Sullivan County that killed two men over the weekend.
According to the Kingsport Police Department, they responded to a multi-vehicle incident on Interstate 81 Saturday just after 2:00 P.M. Other agencies including the Sullivan County F.I.R.S.T (Fatal Incident Response and Support Team) also responded to the scene. A crash report says that a 2008 Honda Ridgeline, driven by William Carpenter Jr, was traveling north when it veered over into the opposite lane, hitting a 1995 Ford F-150 driven by Jeffrey Goode head on.
The truck caught fire and became fully engulfed, then a third vehicle crashed into the Honda Ridgeline. The interstate was closed for an extended amount of time following the crash. Carpenter and Goode were both pronounced dead, however, the driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash at this time.
