Multiple DUI Charges Handed Down In Three Vehicle Incident in Unicoi County
Two people have been charged with DUI’s after a three vehicle incident in Unicoi County Sunday morning leaves one hospitalized.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says three vehicle were traveling on Interstate 26 Eastbound, when a 2007 Nissan Altima, operated by Kelvin Thomas II, 23, crashed into the center barrier, blocking two lanes of the interstate. A 2017 Jeep Renegade, driven by Rilie King, 25, stopped on the right shoulder, but then a third vehicle driven by Ramon Castillo, 73, slammed into the disabled Nissan, causing Castillo’s vehicle to overturn on King’s jeep.
Castillo was taken to the Unicoi County emergency room to be treated for his injuries. King was charged with a DUI and Thomas received numerous charges including a DUI, implied consent, due care, expired registration, and simple possession of marijuana. The crash remains under investigation.
