Sexton chosen as Tennessee House Speaker

“There will be a new tone. People will be treated with fairness, with respect and with dignity. All who want to be included will be included,” Hill said.

Northeast Tennessee representative Matthew Hill addressing the GOP caucus in Nashville prior to votes being cast for the next House Speaker. The current deputy house speaker was one of three finalists but his fellow lawmakers instead chose House Republican Caucus Chair Cameron Sexton of Crossville for the post.

“I look forward to working with every single one of you to continue what we’ve been doing and achieving great things,” Sexton said.

Sexton will be formally installed during a special session on Aug. 23.
