TBI and FBI Working Together for Awareness Campaign on Hoax Threats

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation along with the FBI are teaming up for a campaign to raise awareness about social media posting on hoax threats.

Recent mass shootings have allegedly had links to social media posts prior to the attacks, which has caused law enforcement to ramp up activity online looking for any threatening posts, regardless if they are legitimate or not.

The TBI reminds everyone that issuing a hoax threat, even through a text or email, is a federal crime, and could be subject to five years in prison if convicted.
