One dead, one injured following crash in Scott County

A truck passenger is dead and the driver suffered life-threatening injuries following a crash late Thursday in Scott County, Virginia.

The Virginia State Police says a 2011 pickup was traveling west on Route 58 just after 11 p.m. when the vehicle exited the roadway and hit a tree. The female passenger died at the scene while the driver was flown by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

VSP reports that charges are pending against the driver. The identity of the victim will be released after her family is notified.
