Man Named “Tupac Shakur” Arrested on Drug and Assault Charges Saturday in JC
An Elizabethton man who shares the name of a once famous rapper is facing charges on accusations he tried to turn at officers with a knife.
Johnson City Police say they were called to East Unaka Ave Saturday afternoon for an individual with warrants out of Carter County. Authorities made contact with Tupac Shakur, 40, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Officers tried to arrest Shakur, who allegedly resisted and then tried maneuver towards the officers with a knife before being apprehended. Multiple bags of methamphetamine and a syringe were found on Shakur during his arrest. He was charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Simple Possession of Meth, and Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia.
He is being held on an $18,000 bond and is scheduled to appear today at 1:30 p.m in Washington County General Sessions Court.
