UPDATE: Man who killed, dumped dogs on Roan Mountain plans to plead guilty
A Carter County, Tennessee dispatcher who lost his job after police charged him with intentionally killing four dogs will be pleading guilty next month.
According to court information, an attorney for Garrett Brian Birchfield, 26, notified the judge of their intentions and requested sentencing at the same hearing. Birchfield reportedly stole a rifle from a residence in April, killed the dogs and returned to the home posing as a police investigator.
The dogs were found dumped at Teaberry Road on Roan Mountain and Birchfield later admitted to killing the canines. He was charged with aggravated burglary, four counts of intentionally killing an animal, tampering with evidence, theft and criminal impersonation.
Birchfield is due in Criminal Court on Nov. 6.
