Sullivan County Commissioners To Discuss Pre Trial Early Release Program To Ease Overcrowded Jail

Sullivan County Commissioners on Thursday are expected to discuss adjusting the county’s corrections budget by more than 800 thousand dollars. Commissioners will consider hiring an additional ten Sullivan County Sheriff deputies to over see a proposed Pre Trial Early Release program. Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy is proposing to hire the additional employees to help reduce the jail’s severely overcrowded facility. The sheriff’s department says the proposed plan would reduce the inmate population, reduce inmate expenses and increase safety for both officers and inmates at an estimated cost of 817 thousand dollars.
