Sullivan County Commissioners Tackle Several Issues In Thursday Work Session
Sullivan County teachers could be receiving a pay raise, and the sheriff’s department could gain ten additional officers for a proposed early release program to help ease a jail overcrowding issue. Those were among the items discussed at a Sullivan County Commission work session Thursday night. The one percent pay raise for teachers would come from a school surplus account and would help close the pay gap compared to teachers in neighboring school systems. The Minimum cost to add the ten additional full-time officers to help with the release program would start at 817 thousand dollars. Commissioners will vote on these resolutions at next Thursday’s full commission meeting.
