Increased Security to be at all Bristol, VA Public Schools and Bristol, TN City Schools on Monday

Additional security will be in place this morning at all Bristol, TN and VA City Schools.

The Bristol, VA City school district posted on its Facebook page Sunday that they were alerted by a student who told them an unknown individual posted online intentions to bring a weapon to school Monday. That information did not include the name of the school, student, or if it was in either division. As a precaution, Bristol, VA Schools reached out to Bristol, TN City Schools, and all schools in both districts will be on heightened alert today.

The Bristol, VA Police Department is investigating the alleged threat.

Bristol, VA

Earlier today, a middle school student made us aware of a generic threat about a weapon being brought to a school on Monday. The information did not include the name of a school, the name of the student, or even mention that the school is in our division. The Bristol Virginia Police Department is currently investigating since the report was made by a BVPS student. We will be even more vigilant than normal tomorrow and will have extra police presence at each school. We have no reason to believe that any one is in danger, but we are taking extra precautions to err on the side of safety. Please email me if you have any questions – kperrigan@bvps.org

Bristol, TN

Our district was contacted earlier today by Bristol Virginia Public Schools regarding a report they received from one of their students. A Bristol Virginia Middle School student reported that an unknown individual posted a threat online indicating their intention to bring a weapon to school on Monday. No specific school or district was identified in the message. The Bristol Virginia Police Department is currently investigating. We have no reason to believe that the threat is tied to our district in any way; however, out of an abundance of caution, we have asked the Bristol Tennessee Police Department for additional police presence at our schools tomorrow, and our staff will be instructed to operate with a heightened level of security awareness. We will continue to be in touch with the police department and notify parents if there are further developments.
