Governor Northam to propose $1.2 billion in investments for Virginia’s K-12 Education
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has announced a proposed investment of $1.2 billion in K-12 education in the state budget.
Several areas of Virginia education would be addressed, including a $140 million increase in funds towards to supporting educationally at risk students, a 3% salary increase for teachers, and increasing funds to hire additional school counselors and instructional support for English language learners. The office of Governor Northam says 40% of state public students are economically disadvantaged, and recruitment and retaining teachers in Virginia is another challenge to the state.
Northam is presenting his full budget to the Joint Money Committees on Tuesday.
