VSP investigating weekend arrest in Bristol, VA after suspect sustained possible serious head injuries
Virginia State Police have been called in to investigate after a suspect sustained possibly serious head injuries during an attempted arrest in Bristol, Virginia this weekend.
According to Captain Maynard Ratcliff of the Bristol, VA Police Department, an officer attempted to pull over a driver for an equipment violation on Commonwealth Avenue, but when he approached the vehicle, the driver drove away towards West State Street, before exiting the vehicle on foot. The suspect ran back towards Commonwealth Avenue and reportedly threw something off a bridge before being tackled by the officer.
A report said the suspect lost consciousness and medical personnel was called before that individual was taken to the hospital. The identity of both of the suspect and officer involved are not being released while Virginia State Police conduct their investigation.
