The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has sent a precautionary fish consumption advisory that extends to the Cherokee reservoir and Nolichucky River.
The advisory issued Wednesday, is due to follow up studies from previous advisories finding mercury in certain types of fish. TDEC says a consumption advisory is being issued to include black bass and catfish species in the Cherokee reservoir, while an advisory is issued for small mouth bass and channel catfish the Nolichucky river. The department says pregnant or nursing mothers and children should avoid eating the fish species included in the advisory altogether, while everyone else should limit eating the mentioned species to once per month.
