Changes In Virginia Tax Laws, Beginning Next Week
Next week in Virginia, taxpayers in the Commonwealth can begin filing their individual income tax returns. And this year, due to changes in federal tax law, the Virginia standard deduction has increased. Individuals and married couples filing separately will see their deductions increase by four thousand five hundred dollars and married couples filing jointly will see an increase of nine thousand dollars. Officials are also urging tax payers to file their returns electronically if at all possible. Last year more than 4 point two million people filed individual income tax returns in Virginia with 84 percent of those filing electronically.
