Appalachian Sustainable Development Celebrating 25 years
The first non profit in the Appalachian Highlands to focus on sustainable agriculture initiatives is celebrating its 25 anniversary and is getting a new home to boot. Appalachian Sustainable Development, is nationally known for its impact to rural economic development. ASD created the Appalachian Harvest Food Hub in Duffield, Virginia in 2000. The non profit has since helped local farmers sell more than 21 million dollars in local and regionally grown produce to national retailers. As of the 27 of January, ASD will also occupy a new 12 thousand square foot facility to house its administrative and program managers as well as warehouse and workshop space for farmers in the region.
