UPDATE: Death confirmed in Thursday Wise fire

A fatality has been confirmed following a house fire Thursday night in Wise County, Virginia.

Wise Fire Department Chief Duane Phillips confirmed the death of one individual following response to a house fire at a home on Mountainview Road. The identity of the individual has not yet been released and Virginia State Police are currently conducting an investigation.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office and Coeburn Fire Department additionally responded to the call.

The search continues for a person unaccounted for following a house fire Thursday night in Wise County, Virginia.

According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, their agency and the Wise and Coeburn fire departments were called to a fully engulfed home in the Pole Bridge area of Wise, Virginia.

Virginia State Police are leading the investigation and we’ll provide updates once they are made available.
