Dobyns Bennett To Honor Former Douglass High School
Saturday, when the Dobyns Bennett High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams entertain Jefferson County, the Indians with the nations most wins will not wear their traditional maroon and grey uniforms. But instead will wear the blue and gold colors of the Douglass High School Tigers and Tigerettes. The school was home to Kingsport’s African American students until 1966. The Dobyns Bennett Indians, as part of Black History Month will participate in the Inaugural Douglass Commemorative Basketball games as a way to honor the former school and its players, some who are expected to be recognized at halftime of the boys games that’s set to begin at six pm in the Buck Van Huss Dome.
