Town Of Appalachia Being Urged To Prepare For Voluntary Evacuations Due To Flooding

Residents in the small town of Appalachia Virginia are being urged to prepare for voluntary evacuations as the Powell River approaches flood stage. The Appalachian Fire Department says the Powell Rive is running at seven thousand feet per second and flooding can occur at eight thousand feet per second. A retaining pond has also breached near Black Mountain.
