Teenager Becomes First Flu Related Pediatric Death in Virginia
A teenager in the northern region of Virginia has become the Commonwealth’s first influenza associated pediatric death for the 2019-2020 flu season. The Virginia Department of Health reports the teen, said to be between the ages of thirteen and seventeen died from complications associated with the flu. So far the agency has investigated a total of 61 flu outbreaks through February first. On average, three flu related pediatric deaths are reported each year in Virginia.
