Chancellor cancels Virginia Community College graduations statewide
Virginia Community College Chancellor Glenn DuBois issued a statement Tuesday to cancel all graduation events at the state’s 23 campuses scheduled for May.
The move is to adhere to CDC guidelines of prohibiting or discouraging events for 10 to 50 people or more, the chancellor said. DuBois noted the family members that students expect for these types of celebrations are the ones at highest risk for COVID-19 while congratulatory high fives and handshakes fly in the face of social distancing practices being hammered home by federal health officials.
DuBois noted that the Class of 2020 will be honored at the schools with ceremonies at a later date and a safer time.
