UPDATE: TSSAA pushes state basketball tournaments to May
Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Executive Director Bernard Childress wants athletes to know the group is trying to save their seasons.
He made those remarks to announce the rescheduling of the boy’s and girl’s state basketball tournaments until May. Childress noted the games will continue if the CDC and Governor Bill Lee lift restrictions on crowds in that time period due to COVID-19.
Officials at Middle Tennessee State University said they would be able to host the games later this spring although the TSSAA had considered games at regional sites.
Greeneville and Sullivan South are two of the teams in the boys Class AA quarterfinals.
Athletic officials in neighboring Virginia were able to complete some of the state finals while the remainder of the brackets were canceled with remaining teams named co-state champions.
