Tennessee Death Row Inmate Asks For Stay Of Execution…Cites Coronavirus Outbreak
A Tennessee inmate convicted of a triple murder and scheduled to die in June for his transgressions is now seeking a stay of execution, citing the new coronavirus pandemic. Attorney’s for inmate Oscar Smith wrote in a State Supreme Court filing the court can stay the execution for six months to let the outbreak runs its course and let Smith’s legal team conduct crucial work for him. The filing says it would be irresponsible and against the pubic interest for attorneys to conduct necessary interviews, travel, meet with Smith and carry out other tasks during the outbreak as they pursue clemency and court challenges.
