High Speed Police Chase Ends With Suspect Crashing…Receives Minor Injuries
A Johnson City man is jailed after striking a Carter County Deputy’s cruiser then leading the officer on a high speed chase that ends with the suspect receiving minor injuries after crashing his vehicle. 24 year old Jewon Gaines of Johnson City was found sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot of Watauga First Baptist Church. Gaines refused to open the door or roll down his window and backed up at a high rate of speed and struck the cruiser. Gaines then fled the scene at a high rate of speed and was pursued on Highway 400 and Steamplant Road when he eventually crashed the vehicle. Gaines received facial injuries as a result of the crash and was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and evading arrest. Gaines is being held in the Carter County Detention Center.
