UPDATE: UVA health officials receive $1M donation to make more COVID-19 tests
A $1 million donation from a Charlottesville non-profit will boost the fight against COVID-19 in Virginia.
A report from the UVA Health System said the Quantitative Foundation infusion of capital will not only help the agency continue its chore of making their own coronavirus testing kits but also help implement a new platform that can produce quicker test results for physicians.
UVA workers have developed a system that cuts wait time for COVID-19 results from five to nine days to just 24 hours. Despite the fast turnaround, doctors across the state still report a lack of testing supplies while Department of Health officials are telling hospitals to prep for an influx of new patients.
