SCSO: Man charged with first-degree murder in 2019 suspicious death of stepgrandfather
A Kingsport man has been charged with first-degree murder and false reports in the case of a suspicious death of his 79-year old step-grandfather last November.
Sullivan County Sheriff deputies say on November 20th, they were alerted by suspect Jeffery Caldwell’s wife Kayla, that she found the body of Lewis Vaughn in his bedroom. Jeffery Caldwell was seen leaving the home in Vaughn’s vehicle that morning.
He was arrested the next day by Kingsport Police on charges including resisting arrest, vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property. Kayla Caldwell was also arrested in the case, after police say she cleaned Jeffery’s shoes and hid them.
Jeffery Caldwell is being held in the Sullivan County Jail with no bond.
