Kingsport swift water rescue team retrieves stranded kayaker in Bluff City

Members of Kingsport Lifesaving Crew’s swift water rescue team were able to retrieve a stranded kayaker Sunday evening.

The agency reported they responded to a mutual aid request in Bluff City and upon arriving they determined that a motorboat attempt to reach the boater on an island on Silver Grove Road was not possible due to hazardous conditions and debris in the South Holston River.

The team was able to get permission from surrounding property owners and launch a manned raft to retrieve the man who was ferried back to shore and treated by Sullivan County EMS.
