UPDATE: Northam continues ban on non-emergency surgeries, keeps DMV offices closed through May 11
The ban on non-emergency medical procedures will continue and DMV offices will remain closed statewide following renewal orders from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.
Protection of medical personnel and equipment is the reason for the continuing ban on elective surgeries until May 1, according to the governor’s statement. Those surgeries are still available if the delay would harm the patient.
The ban continues despite a request earlier Thursday by the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association to let the order expire on Friday.
The closure of DMV locations until May 11 will also extend grace periods for driver’s license renewals, plate purchases, and vehicle registrations until July 31 under Northam’s executive order.
