Sgt. Hinkle, Trooper Dowell, to be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial
Sullivan County Sgt. Steve Hinkle and Virginia State Police trooper Lucas Dowell will be two of over 300 fallen officers to be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial this year in Washington D.C.
The Law Enforcement Memorial Fund has released their 2020 Roll Call of Heroes list, honoring officers killed in the line of duty last year and in previous years. Steve Hinkle was shot and killed while responding to a welfare check at a home in Blountville last February. Hinkle had served with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years. Lucas Dowell, a native of Southwest VA, was shot and killed while serving a warrant on February 4th, 2019. Dowell was in his fourth year serving as a state police trooper.
