Tennessee Department Of Education Making School Reopening Plans
The Tennessee Department of Education is providing Local Education Associations in Northeast Tennessee and the rest of the Volunteer State with a nearly 50 page school reopening, guidance tool kit. And while it’s still not clear when schools in Tennessee will open, what is clear is it won’t be your traditional six and a half hour day, 180 day school year. In fact the department is urging districts to also plan for a non traditional school year for 2021. With health and safety at the forefront, the department must ensure all students have access to a full school day, for a full school year. In order to achieve that goal, school districts may be forced to stagger schedules, stagger days and other alternative procedures. The TDE is also looking at ways to fill academic gaps that have been elevated by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
