Kingsport cancels Mack Riddle American Legion Independence Day Parade for 2020

Officials with the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce announced Friday the cancellation of the annual Mack Riddle American Legion Independence Day Parade downtown due to pandemic concerns.

It marks the first time in 65 years that floats and patriotic displays will not make their way down Center Street and Fort Henry Drive.

The city is still planning its fireworks display events for the evening of July 4th with simultaneous shows planned for the traditional Cement Hill area and at Dobyns Bennett High School.

Chamber officials said the two displays will allow residents to spread out further in portions of the city for social distancing purposes.
