Mount Carmel BMA unable to take action on Mayor, Alderman resignations due to lack of aldermen present at Thursday’s meeting
A vote to accept or reject the resignations of the Mount Carmel Mayor and an alderman have been delayed following the cancellation of a meeting Thursday night.
Only three of the seven Mount Carmel Board of Mayor and Aldermen members were present at City Hall, including Vice Mayor Jennifer Williams, rendering the meeting unable to proceed forward due to a lack of a majority of members present.
One of the main items that was to be discussed and possibly voted on was whether to accept the resignation of Mount Carmel Mayor Chris Jones and Alderman Carl Wolfe, after a writ of ouster was filed against the duo last week on accusations they conspired to create a fake eviction notice using the town’s seal on a document to evict Jones’s girlfriend from a home owned by Wolfe.
According to John Pevy, City Attorney for Mount Carmel, a judge approved a request for an order of suspension of Jones and Wolfe from office during a court hearing Thursday. Pevy says the order has been logged but not formally entered as of Thursday night. Pevy told us neither Jones or Wolfe were opposed to the hearing.
The item has been moved to a meeting scheduled for next week.
