Event organizers, city leaders address Marion, VA protests during Sunday press conference
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead over in an investigation involving a reported cross burning at a home of a Black Lives Matter protest organizer in Marion, VA.
The incident follows a protest in the town’s downtown area on June 13th. A press conference was held with event organizers Travon Brown and David Sparks yesterday, in addition to city officials on hand. Brown, who’s home was where the reported cross burning took place, wants the community to engage in social commentary related to the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I urge that Marion, VA just do better, you can always come talk to me and ask me what is this movement about,” said Brown.
Sparks also echoed the same sentiment. “It’s up to us to stand up and make that change, and whoever disagrees, I would encourage them to try to come and have that a conversation, a peaceful conversation, so that we can all get on the same page,” said Sparks.
Another protest is scheduled in the town for July 3rd at the Marion Farmer’s Market.
