Petition calls for relocation of confederate monument from Wash. Co, VA Courthouse, counter-petition also launched
A pair of petitions are dueling over what to do with two Confederate monuments that sit outside of the Washington County, VA Courthouse.
One petition created by UVA-Wise political science professor Heather Evans calls for their removal and relocation to Sinking Springs cemetery, stating the monuments do not unite and inspire the community.
The other petition calls for the saving of the monuments, with that petition stating the creator or others do not believe the monuments represent any kind of racism. Beginning next Wednesday, localities across Virginia will be granted the ability to remove or relocate confederate monuments.
The monuments are expected to be discussed at the next Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting July 14th.
