US DOL: 47,227 first time jobless claims filed last week in TN and VA

Over 47,000 new unemployment claims have been filed in TN and VA.

The latest jobless claims report from the US Department of Labor shows 21,155 new claims were filed in TN last week, bringing the first increase in new claims for a week since the April 4th report.

Northeast TN saw 1,012 new claims filed, while over 15,000 jobless claims were continued. Below is the breakdown by county:

Carter County- 82 new claims (1,242 claims continued)
Greene County- 165 new claims (2,484 claims continued)
Hawkins County- 202 new claims (1,656 claims continued)
Johnson County- 35 new claims (325 claims continued)
Sullivan County- 279 new claims (4,721 claims continued)
Unicoi County- 29 new claims (468 claims continued)
Washington County- 220 new claims (4,192 claims continued)

In Virginia, 26,072 first time unemployment claims were filed for the week ending June 20th, a slight decrease from the week prior.
