VBOE…Skin Color, Socioeconomic Status Predicts Quality Of Educational Opportunities
The Virginia Board of Education says, too often, a student’s skin color or socioeconomic status predicts the quality of their educational opportunities. Daniel Gecker, President of the Virginia Board of Education also says access to funding has not been equal at all times in the Commonwealth.The three page statement, approved unanimously by the board goes on to say the State of Virginia needs to change how it structures public education and without such action, student achievement gaps, easily predicted by race and socioeconomic status will stubbornly persist as they have for decades.
