Crashes Down In Virginia…Unbelted, Speed Related Fatalities Up
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, fewer vehicles have been on Virginia roadways, resulting in a 45 percent decrease in traffic crashes. However, during that same reporting period there’s been a 78 percent increase in the number of fatalities involving both speed and unrestrained travelers. Those figures from the Virginia Department of Transportation, who says it is of great concern and are urging all motorists to drive the posted speed limit and wear seat belts. Of the 58 speed related fatalities recorded, 41 were not wearing seat belts.
