UPDATE: Suspects in Washington County, Virginia ambush murder set for arraignment
Two suspects charged in a Southwest Virginia murder have been extradited from Sullivan County, Tennessee to make their first court appearance in Abingdon.
Officials with jail operations in Blountville said Terry Linebaugh and Heather Jones are now held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned in General Sessions Court related to the death of Lynn Walker Hammonds.
Hammonds was found dead from several gunshot wounds inside a vacant house in Bristol off Gate City Highway. Sheriff Blake Andis said Linebaugh, 35, and Jones, 32, ambushed Hammonds on June 30 in a scheme they hatched while Linebaugh was closing out an 18-year prison sentence. The two then came back to the dwelling and burned the home in an effort to destroy the body and evidence, investigators said.
Linebaugh and Jones were captured in Kingsport two weeks ago.
