Maryland man killed in Friday’s multi-vehicle crash in Wythe County, VA
Virginia State Police have identified the victim in Friday’s multi-vehicle accident in Wythe County that caused Interstate 81 to shut down for several hours.
A box truck, driven by Orlando Craig, 44, of Arnold, MD, was traveling south on Interstate 81 when it ran off the left side of the interstate, crossed through the median and entered the northbound lanes, striking a Nissan Pathfinder and two tractor-trailers, which caused one of the tractor-trailers to run off the left side of the road into the median.
Craig died at the scene and was not wearing a seatbelt, while his passenger, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was treated for serious injuries. Three people in the Pathfinder, including a juvenile were treated for minor injuries, while the drivers of the two tractor-trailers were treated for serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
